In 1967 the National State of the Argentine Republic
constituted HIDRONOR S.A. (Hidroeléctrica Norpatagónica
Sociedad Anónima), with the purpose of controlling the flow of
the rivers Limay and Neuquén, in the Comahue region, located in
Neuquén and Rio Negro Provinces, in the north-east area of the
Patagonia; as well as developing its hydroenergetic potential. 
Up to 1993 this Corporation planned, built and operated the Hydroelectric Power Plants, with a total power capacity amounting to 4,170 MW, as well as associated electricity transmission systems representing 3,780 Km of 500Kv transmission lines. At the same time, this Corporation is carrying out an important number of complimentary works such as: routes, bridges, urbanization, low and middle voltage lines, communication systems, etc.
During 1993, and as a consequence of the transformation in the Argentine Republic Electric Sector, HIDRONOR S.A. was splitted into different business units, separating power generation from electricity transmission and transferring its operation to international business groups of private capital.
As a consequence of this process and with the purpose of taking advantage of the experience of the technical teams trained by HIDRONOR S.A. in the development of its projects, H.I.S.S.A. HIDRONOR INGENIERIA Y SERVICIOS S.A. (Hidronor Engineering and Services Stock Corporation) has been created. H.I.S.S.A.'s Board of Directors is formed by the management that was in charge of the development of HIDRONOR and who also conducted its privatisation process.
Thus, this new Corporation is able to offer specialized technical assistance to any governmental and/or private company, in every aspect connected with the planning, building and operation of Hydroelectric Power Plants and associated electricity transmission systems.
